Extreme El Niño drought, fires contribute to Amazon insect collapse: Study

Forests that burned during the El Niño lost, on average, 64% of their dung beetle species while those affected only by drought showed an average decline of 20%. Dung beetles provide vital ecoservices, processing waste and dispersing seeds and soil nutrients. (Source: Mongabay)
