NOAA announces largest-ever Gulf of Mexico ‘dead zone’
The dead zone is primarily the result of nutrient pollution that stimulates massive blooms of algae. This algae is fed by nutrient runoff from agricultural areas in the U.S. Midwest carried down by the Mississippi River. (Fuente: Mongabay)
