As the turn of the twentieth century loomed, a horrific drought swept through China. Nearly 700 kilometers of the Huang He, or Yellow River, the second longest in the country, ran dry for almost two-thirds of the year. If that wasn´t bad enough, the next year, 1998, a deluge of rain led to massive flooding along the Yangtze River.(Fuente: Mongabay)
