In Chile, the state-owned company CODELCO, the world’s largest copper producer, last year announced the closure of Ventanas, a smelting plant in one of the most polluted areas of the country: Quintero, in the central Valparaiso region. The decision to close Ventanas followed a new episode of air pollution that affected hundreds of people and forced the closure of schools. (Source: China Dialogue)
